A City Glowing Under a Foggy Sky: San Francisco

“It’s an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco. It must be a delightful city and possess all the attractions of the next world.”

Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. It has many of things I find desirable in a city: a coastline; walkable streets; public transportation; lots of parks and natural areas; beautiful architecture; coastal weather; and a rich and colorful history. As you can see from the pictures below, there are so many unique neighborhoods and beautiful sights to see. Here is a small selection of photos from a few summers back.

Bronze statue of Ashurbanipal by Fred Parhad displayed in front of the Civic Center. Ashurbanipal was an Assyrian king who created one of the first and largest organized libraries in the world. One of the most famous books from the Mesopotamian era that survived to the modern era was The Epic of Gilgamesh.
Quaint street near Golden Gate Park
Overhead lines for the muni system and a perfect example of San Francisco housing.
Streetcar in service traveling down Market Street. The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) line runs under Market Street and continues on under San Francisco Bay to Oakland.
The Hobart Building, a famous high-rise in the city. I was standing on Market Street looking towards San Francisco Bay.
Market Street near the Ferry Building looking back up town. Market Street ends here.
Another view of the streetcars. I love the nice, wide sidewalks along the street.
Looking south from Marina Boulevard, which is located at the top of peninsula. I love the different styles of houses in these neighborhoods. Nearby are the Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio.
Boats moored near Marina Green Park and houses looking out onto the bay. This is one of my favorite parts of the city.
View of the Golden Gate Bridge from Marina Green Park. The top of the bridge was completely obscured by the fog. The day started out sunny and warm and ended foggy and cold. The weather was amazing on this day.
